Grimsby Sign Josh Benson

Grimsby announced via their website they had signed the Burnley youngster. Benson arrives as Ian Holloway’s fourth January signing, arriving on loan for the remainder of the season.

Benson joins up with Burnley teammate Anthony Glennon, who joined Grimsby earlier in the window.

Ian Holloway is continuing to shape the Grimsby squad in his eye. Benson could make his debut this weekend when the Mariners face Exeter City.

Benson is a playmaker and strong tackling midfielder Ian Holloway has wanted in the middle of the park. This will be his first taste of league football having been brilliant for the Burnley U23s.

Ian Holloway Continues to Chop and Change The Grimsby Squad

Josh Benson arrives as Ian Holloway’s fourth addition since arriving in late December. Benson follows Anthony Glennon, Billy Clarke and James Tilley.

Holloway has targeted Grimsby’s underperforming midfield this window. Glennon, Benson and Tilley are expected to be part of a new-look midfield in the coming weeks. Billy Clarke has already made an excellent start scoring on debut against Leyton Orient.

However, expect Ian Holloway to make more changes in the next couple of weeks. He is trimming the deadwood from Michael Jolley’s spell in charge. Moses Ogbu has already departed Blundell Park, and more are expected to follow.

Grimsby are still looking to pull away from the relegation battle. Ian Holloway has targeted creativity and goals in this window. Goals have been in short supply for the Mariners this season.

Grimsby struggled to score goals under Michael Jolley and caretaker manager Anthony Limbrick. Holloway has already seen his new attack pay dividends after Clarke scored on debut.

A busy window so far for Grimsby and Ian Holloway isn’t done there with more arrivals and departures likely in the next couple of weeks.
