Swansea City have made their second January signing with the addition of Chelsea defender Marc Guehi on loan for the rest of the season.
Swansea City Sign Marc Guehi
Option to Extend
The defender joins on loan for the rest of the season with the option of extending the loan for another twelve months.
Guehi reunites with Swansea boss Steve Cooper. The young defender was part of Cooper’s England U17’s, who lifted the World Cup in 2017.
Guehi is also once again linking up with England teammate Rhian Brewster, who joined Swansea earlier this week from Liverpool.
His addition has come in time for the South Wales Derby against Cardiff City this weekend.
A Versatile Defender for Steve Cooper
The young Chelsea defender is highly thought of by Frank Lampard and the Chelsea coaching staff. However, the 19-year-old needs first-team experience and game time.
He has already made his senior debut for Chelsea playing in their Carabao Cup win over Grimsby Town.
Cooper will be delighted to have him on board and will already know what he brings to the table. He can play across the defence which could be vital for Swansea in the coming months.
Swansea’s backline is severely short of options with injury crippling Steve Cooper’s team. Joe Rodon is working his way back to full fitness while Mike Van der Hoorn continues to battle a knee injury.
Steve Cooper Continuing to Reshape Swansea
Steve Cooper is into his second transfer window and already they look a different side from last season.
They have been excellent this season and are looking, genuine promotion contenders. Cooper is signing young players who like to attack.
Rhian Brewster could be an excellent signing if he shows the right attitude and shows the talents Cooper has. Guehi could stabilise an inconsistent Swansea backline.
Cooper’s revamp at Swansea is gathering pace as he continues to build a team capable of getting Swansea back to the Premier League.
