Chelsea Fan Accused of Racially Abusing Heung-Min Son Arrested
Racial Abuse
Sunday’s game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was stopped during the second half by referee Anthony Taylor.
The match official stopped play for an allegation of racist abuse aimed at Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger.
Spurs are conducting an investigation into the incident.
The London side have said that, after studying hours of CCTV footage, it has proved “inconclusive” that a fan was abusive.
However, it has emerged that an away fan was ejected and arrested during the game.
The Metropolitan Police, who are investigating the alleged abuse of Rudiger, confirmed a supporter was arrested.
The individual was alleged of committing a racially aggravated public order offence understood to have been aimed at Spurs’ Son.
It is unknown when exactly the incident preceding the arrest took place.
Son was sent off following a VAR review for kicking out at Rudiger on 62 minutes.
Antonio Rudiger Abuse
Rudiger reported the alleged abuse during Sunday’s 2-0 win.
It led to the Premier League deploying their anti-discrimination protocol for the first time.
Rudiger mimicked a monkey gesture as he and captain Cesar Azpilicueta reported the abuse to referee Taylor.
A message distributed over the tannoy said: “Racist behaviour among spectators is interfering with the game. Please remember that racism has no place in football.”
In addition, Tottenham released their own statement, saying: “We are now conducting a thorough investigation which will include liaising with Chelsea and their players for their observations.
“Any form of racism is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated in our stadium.
“We take any such allegations extremely seriously and shall take the strongest possible action against any individual found to be behaving in such a way, including stadium bans.”
