Welcome back to the Last Word on Football’s previews and predictions for Ligue 1. We have reached the 17th round of games, where Paris Saint Germain travel to in form Montpellier. Marseille and Bordeaux clash while two sides fresh off much-needed wins meet as Brest travel to Lille.

Paris Saint Germain Travel to in Form Montpellier

Leaders Paris Saint Germain travel to high flying Montpellier. Thomas Tuchel’s team head to Montpellier hoping to extend their winning run to four games. While Montpellier will be determined to extend their unbeaten run to seven games.

Michel Der Zakarian’s team have found some form and are on their best run of the season. They are six unbeaten collecting 10 points in that time. They are just a point off the Champions League places and will fancy continuing their good home form.

Paris Saint Germain comfortably lead the way but are facing stiff competition from in-form Marseille. Thomas Tuchel knows they must keep winning. However, Tuchel has yet to win at Montpellier. 2015 was the last time Paris Saint Germain won in Montpellier.

This is a key game for both teams.

Two Teams Locked Together Clash as Rennes Host Angers

Two teams battling for European football clash. Rennes welcome Angers with both sides locked together on 24 points. Julian Stephan’s Rennes are slowly finding their groove having won four of their last five games. Angers’ season has exceeded all expectations, but their form has dipped losing their last two.

Rennes have picked an excellent time to find form winning their last two and four of their last five. Julian Stephan’s team will fancy securing a top-four finish due to the inconsistencies of other teams. Adrian Hunou is impressing and was the matchwinner on Wednesday night. Rennes will fancy extending their excellent run at home. Stephan’s team have won their last three home games.

1981 was the last time an Angers team won a league game in Rennes. Stephane Moulin’s team have been fantastic this season and are very much in European contention. However, they have lost their last two league games. Overall, its just two wins in the last eight games. Moulin will demand improvement and hope his side can spring a surprise on in form Rennes.

Lille vs Brest

Two sides fresh off victories clash. Lille’s first away win of the season will bring huge confidence. Christophe Galtier’s side will be determined to collect a third straight league win. A fantastic win for Brest against Strasbourg and they travel to Stade Pierre Mauroy hoping to spring a surprise.

A must-win game for Nimes. Its nine league games without a win for struggling Nimes. The pressure is mounting on Bernard Blaquart. Rudi Garcia will demand a response following their poor defeat to Lille

Inconsistent form lets Monaco down. However, they are imperious at the Principality stadium. They have their last four home games and will fancy making it five. Luka Elsner’s team have hit a rough patch losing their last three league games. Amiens need a win to ignite their season again.

Montpellier vs Paris Saint Germain

In form Montpellier welcome Paris Saint Germain. Its six unbeaten for Montpellier while Paris Saint Germain have won their last three games. Paris Saint Germain are the only team yet to draw.

Nice vs Metz

Its been a mixed week for Nice. Beating Angers before being thumped by Saint Etienne. Speculation about Patrick Vieira’s future is not helping their cause, but they will hope to collect back to back home wins. Metz have drawn their last four games. Its five without a win for struggling Metz.

Rennes vs Angers

Rennes have found form at the right time. Julian Stephan’s team have won four of their last five games. They will fancy extending their excellent run. Angers have found life tough recently losing their last two games. But Stephan Moulin will see this game as a good chance to respond.

Strasbourg vs Toulouse

A good game for Strasbourg to respond. Thierry Laurey will certainly demand one after their humiliating defeat to Brest. They have lost their last two league games. Toulouse’s season is heading in one direction right now. They have lost their last six league games and the pressure is growing on Antoine Kombouare who’s only taken three points from his seven league games in charge. They desperately need something.

Marseille vs Bordeaux

Second and third clash at the Stade Velodrome. Marseille is very much the in-form team winning their last five league games. Bordeaux is also showing shoots of improvement having gone unbeaten in their last five games.

Nantes have found times tough recently winning just once in their last seven games. Christian Gourcuff needs a win this weekend to continue their push for European football. Dijon has vastly improved as the season has progressed but still lie narrowly above the bottom three. They are winless in two games.

Reims vs Saint Etienne

Despite their terrific defensive record, Reims have found wins elusive. They are winless in six games but still find themselves very much in the race for European football. Claude Puel’s Saint Etienne are flying after they responded brilliantly to their first loss under him. They thrashed Nice in style and will fancy extending their tremendous run.
