Oxford United have set a new club record after they managed to extend their unbeaten run to 16 in all competitions following a 1-0 win at Walsall.

The FA Cup second round tie was a twelfth win during the run which was the key result in breaking their longest ever unbeaten as a Football League club.

Sixteen Game Unbeaten Run

Following defeat at Fleetwood Town in early September, Karl Robinson’s side have been in devastating form. The U’s have won twelve games, scored 41 goals and kept ten clean sheets.

During that run, Oxford broke another club record after securing their highest ever away victory in the Football League – a 6-0 win at Lincoln City. The U’s also eased past West Ham United in the Carabao Cup and won four home games in succession with a 3-0 scoreline.

As a result, Robinson’s side are 6th in League One, are through to the knockout stages of the Football League Trophy, have reached the third round of the FA Cup and face Manchester City in the last eight of the Carabao Cup.

Another impressive part of this run is that Robinson has been without some key players. Cameron Brannagan, George Thorne, Ben Woodburn, Shandon Baptiste and Jamie Hanson have all missed large parts of this monumental run through injury.

The league will be the priority for the U’s who were last in the tier of English football back in 1998/99, but they remain fighting in three cup competitions.

How Long Can Oxford Remain Unbeaten?

The U’s longest ever unbeaten run was 19 games which came during the U’s first season in the Conference League. Robinson’s side face Exeter City in the Football League Trophy on Wednesday, before returning to league action at home to Shrewsbury Town. The U’s then travel to struggling MK Dons, which would equal the clubs longest ever unbeaten run if they make it that far.

But surpassing 19 games will be difficult. The U’s welcome Manchester City on December 18, a match in which the Carabao Cup holders will be firm favourites for.
