Toulouse have appointed Antoine Kombouaré as their new manager. The experienced manager replaces Alain Casanova who left the club last week following a series of death threats sent to him and his family. Kombouare has signed a deal at Toulouse until 2021.
Antoine Kombouare Is The New Toulouse Manager
Seasoned relegation fighter Kombouaré is back in Ligue 1 tasked with ensuring Toulouse remain a Ligue 1 side. Kombouaré brings plenty of experience having managed the likes of Paris Saint Germain, Guingamp and most recently Dijon. He has been out of work since leaving Dijon in May after keeping them in Ligue 1.
The new manager inherits a team sitting in 18th place following a disappointing start to the season. Nine points from nine games for Les Violets, whose season is yet to take flight. Kombouaré is going to need all the experience from his 400 plus matches in charge to turn their season around.
As well as announcing Kombouaré as their new manager, Toulouse have also confirmed Kombouaré’s backroom team with Yves Bertucci, Michel Defour and Rudy Riou all arriving as part of a new-look coaching team.
Denis Zanko returns to his role in the Toulouse academy after his brief spell as caretaker manager.
Kombouare Looking To Ignite Toulouse’s Season
Kombouaré has a big job on his hands with Toulouse desperately struggling for wins, form and confidence. He inherits a Toulouse side on a five-match winless run and desperately short on goals with Les Violets notching just nine goals thus far. Striker Efthimis Koulouris has contributed nearly 50% off Toulouse’s goals this season and, certainly, Kombouaré will continue to unlock his potential.
However, keeping goals out is proving elusive for Les Violets with only Monaco conceding more goals this season. Toulouse have a young defence and experience is lacking which is a concern. However, when Toulouse have won matches this season, clean sheets have followed so certainly there is a resilient streak in this team. Their away form is a concern, however, with no wins and just three points amassed on the road this season.
Toulouse’s new era begins on Saturday when they host Lille, looking for a dream start under Kombouaré. However, this fixture against Lille starts a difficult set of fixtures for the new manager, with games against Rennes, Lyon, Montpellier and Marseille to follow.
Kombouaré is well rested and ready to fight. He is determined to ignite Toulouse’s flailing season and get them motoring up the table. The relegation fighter is ready to scrap, and the fans are ready to roar Les Violets to safety.
