Fantasy Premier League Gameweek Five Picks
As most of the players were involved in international football, one must follow the team news very closely this week. Thankfully for FPL managers, the African stars including Mohamed Salah (£12.5) and Sadio Mané (£11.5) got a break. This is due to the African Nations Championship, which is only open to players currently playing in their own national league.
Goalkeepers
Nick Pope (£4.6) is one of the most popular goalkeeper picks this season. He has a good chance to get a good score this week away to Brighton & Hove Albion. The Seagulls lost 0-2 to Southampton last time they were playing at home. Burnley will not make things any easier for them. In fact, the clarets got a big win in this fixture last season.
Adrián (£4.6) should keep a clean sheet this week against Newcastle United at home.
There are a few keepers who could have a monster score this week if things go their way. Ben Foster, Rui Patricio and Kasper Schmeichel all have tough games. However, there is also the potential for them to make a lot of saves. Are you brave enough to take a punt on any of them?
Defenders
Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.1) has the potential to go big this week. He should go forward a lot against Newcastle United at home. He already has three assists to his name. Certainly, there is a decent chance that he will add to his tally in this game. A clean sheet is also likely.
Andrew Robertson (£6.9) has not delivered the goods this season so far. He might come good in this game. Virgil van Dijk (£6.5) also is a good pick.
Oleksandr Zinchenko (£5.6) has started all the matches for Manchester City this season. If he starts again this week, there is a good chance for him to do well. Norwich City seems vulnerable down the right which was exploited by Arthur Masuaku last week. Can Zinchenko do the same? He should be confident after scoring for Ukraine.
Midfielders
Mohamed Salah (£12.5) and Sadio Mané (£11.5) could both run riot this week. Salah has been prolific at home. Mané is yet to score at home this season but that will change soon.
Kevin De Bruyne (£9.8) and Raheem Sterling (£12.3) have terrorised opposition defences so far this season. One would imagine Norwich City are in for a rough ride this week.
Christian Eriksen (£8.8) is still at Tottenham and should start this week. He played well against Arsenal and has a good chance this week against Crystal Palace.
Daniel James (£6.1) just can’t stop scoring it seems. The Welsh midfielder has already scored three goals for Manchester United and scored for his national side as well this week. He has a tricky game against Leicester City this week. Can he keep his scoring run going?
Strikers
Sergio Agüero (£12.1) is in great form. He is also well-rested as he did not feature for Argentina. Norwich City’s defence is not that strong as well. Everything points to the Argentine striker having a good game. Whether that happens or not only time will tell.
Harry Kane (£11.0) failed big time the last time he played at home. He has another decent home matchup this week. He should do well.
Ashley Barnes (£6.7) and Chris Wood (£6.3) are both good options this week. Wood has been a bit unlucky so far. He got a brace in this fixture last season though. Barnes also scored in that match.
Roberto Firmino (£9.5) is having a good season so far. He is definitely a good option this week.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0) scored against Watford last season and is the primary source of goals for Arsenal. The Gabonese can score at any instance and the Hornets could get stung by him once again this week.
