Borussia Dortmund Shocked as Union Berlin Secure first Bundesliga Victory

Dortmund Union Berlin

Union Berlin picked up their first-ever Bundesliga win as they shocked early pacesetters, Borussia Dortmund.

A brace from Marius Bülter either side of a Paco Alcacer strike gave Die Eisernen the advantage before Sebastian Andersson turned home a third with ten minutes remaining.

Die Eisernen Secure First Win With Sensational Performance

After a 4-0 home defeat against RB Leipzig on the opening day, the new Bundesliga side were aware their next home fixture would have been another difficult test.

Following their opening day defeat, Die Eisernen picked up a deserved point at Augsburg last time out but remained in search for their first win.

Not many would have given Union a chance when Dortmund came to town, but this is a small club with a massive heart, and it’s that grit and determination that could be the difference between them staying in the league and suffering relegation.

A goal midway through the first half sparked jubilant scenes at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, but Alcacer levelled just moment later as it seemed the inevitable was about to happen.

Union held their own, fantastically well, and headed into half time level with Lucien Favre’s side.

But five minutes into the second half, Andersson beat Manuel Akanji with a sublime nutmeg before Roman Bürki saved the effort, however, the rebound fell to Bülter who smashed it into the bottom corner.

Next up for Union

Buoyed by this fantastic result, Union Berlin welcome Werder Bremen to the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, believing they can achieve back to back wins.

They then travel to Bayer Leverkusen, a side that has two wins and a draw from their opening three league games, but following the result against Dortmund, Die Eisernen remain realistic but won’t be phased.
