According to Alexander Netherton of Eurosport (via The Sun), Real Madrid are preparing a late bid to sign Christian Eriksen. Tottenham Hotspur have been keen to hang onto the Danish playmaker and have said no bids have been received. With the English transfer window closed, selling Eriksen would leave Spurs unable to sign a replacement until January 2020.

Christian Eriksen Still Refusing to Sign New Tottenham Contract
Christian Eriksen expressed his desire in the summer to “try something new“:
“I feel I am at a place in my career where I might want to try something new,” Eriksen told Danish daily Ekstra Bladet. “I have the deepest respect for everything that has happened at Tottenham. But I have also said that I would like to try something new.”
Eriksen is said to have been offered £200,000 a week to stay at Spurs but has been reluctant to put pen to paper. Eriksen is said to want to move to Real Madrid, Juventus or Barcelona although no bids are been received.
Madrid to Push Daniel Levy to the Limit
Real Madrid are said to be offering £60 million as they feel Daniel Levy will not allow a player of his calibre to leave for free. If Eriksen is not sold before the European window closes the likelihood becomes greater that he will leave for free. Losing him for free would be a damaging sale to Tottenham and would damage Levy’s reputation as a master negotiator.
To Sell or Not to Sell
£60 million would be better than losing the player for nothing. Yet, selling a player instrumental in Tottenham’s top-four progress is foolish at this stage. Who would replace him in January? Tottenham don’t have a ready-made replacement – Oliver Skipp is admired by Mauricio Pochettino but nowhere near the level of the Dane.
Daniel Levy has a huge decision to make and one that could define this season for Tottenham Hotspur should Real Madrid succeed and sign Christian Eriksen.
