Aro Muric failed to deal with Matt Phillips‘ wayward cross as Nottingham Forest fell to a 2-1 opening day defeat to West Brom.
Nottingham Forest Beaten By West Brom
Freak Matt Phillips Goal For Albion
A mishit cross from the touchline by Phillips proved to be the winner for West Brom. Debut goalkeeper Aro Muric appeared to misjudge the flight of the ball as he failed to deal with the wayward delivery.
The Forest shot-stopper was not on his own in making errors though. Opposite number Sam Johnstone was beaten at his near post with a low drilled strike from 20 yards by Matty Cash.
Kyle Edwards levelled for Albion with a shot that slipped through on-loan Manchester City’keeper Muric before Phillips’ fluke cross.
Muric’s error will cause nightmares. The on-loan keeper appeared to pull his hand away from the ball thinking it was floating over his crossbar.
The defeat is Forest’s first loss in an opening day league match at the City Ground since 1983.
Forest Need To ‘Learn From Mistakes’, Says Reds Boss
Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi explained that goalkeeper Muric will bounce back from his mistake.
The goalkeeper was at fault for both goals; however, Reds boss Lamouchi will only judge him on how he reacts to the mistakes.
“We need to learn from our mistakes. Today we gave them two goals and that is not easy, to come back from that.” he said to BBC Sport.
“When you start in the right way, as we did today, with the goal from Matty, you cannot allow the opponent to come back into the game in the manner that we did.
“The second goal can happen, many goalkeepers would have conceded that goal. The first one was of the type that can be avoided.
“But Aro is a young keeper and he has a lot of quality. He will help us a lot this season. He needs to learn from this.”
