Nottingham Forest Manager Sabri Lamouchi Must Succeed

The Nottingham Forest manager merry go round will cause the club issues in their push for promotion this season. In January 2019 the club disposed with Aitor Karanka and replaced him with former player and fan favourite Martin O’Neill, only to sack him in June. He was then replaced by the largely unknown Sabri Lamouchi, who must succeed where others were unable to.

Quickfire Approach Harming Chances for Success

European Champions and a proud history including long-serving manager Brian Clough now seems an eternity ago.

Aitor Karanka managed a year at the City Ground and departed with the club just four points off the play-off positions. Martin O’ Neill, sacked after four months, told the BBC: “Nowadays you have to have an instant impact otherwise people are saying we’re not so sure about this’.

O’Neill hadn’t closed the door before a new man was brought in – just 19 minutes after the Irishman was fired, in came Sabri Lamouchi. The Nottingham Forest manager merry go round goes on.

Pre-Season

Lamouchi, the former Rennes manager, is in charge and has overseen pre-season victories over Alfreton Town, Atromitos of Greece and a 1-0 home win over Premier League Crystal Palace.

Transfers

Ben Osborn departed the City Ground for Sheffield United with the club hopeful the sale may herald some incomings with just a week until the new season kicks off. Jack Colback, the Newcastle United midfielder, is said to be on the radar but it looks like being a lean window for the new manager as he looks to take Forest into the Premier League.

Play-Offs Possible, Promotion Unlikely

If the new Nottingham Forest manager is given time, he can push for promotion. A small squad and a manager who only managed fifth with Rennes in France before being sacked doesn’t add cause for optimism.

The club need to stop hiring and firing and focus on stability. The new manager will soon be looking over his shoulder should results not go his way.
