Liverpool Complete the Signing of Dominic Solanke

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Dominic Solanke from Chelsea.

Liverpool have completed the signing of 19-year-old Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke by agreeing personal terms with the player, the Merseyside club have confirmed. Solanke will officially become a Liverpool player on July 1st, when his contract with Chelsea expires.

With the player being under 24, Chelsea are due some compensation for the transfer regardless of his contract ending, and the Mirror believe Liverpool have offered £3 million as compensation in a bid to avoid the matter going to a transfer tribunal. They also believe Solanke and Liverpool agreed on a £20,000 per week salary.

Solanke made his debut for Chelsea in the Champions League back in October 2014. He spent the 2015/16 season on loan at Vitesse Arnhem in the Dutch Eredivisie, where he scored seven goals in 25 games.

Upon return to Chelsea, he found his playing opportunities to be non-existent, at least when the first team is concerned. He made five appearances in the Premier League 2 and scored two goals.

Having represented England at every level from U16 to U21, the talented youngster will be hoping to get more game-time under Jurgen Klopp. At the moment, it’s hard to tell how the striker department at Liverpool is going look when the season starts. The future of Daniel Sturridge is uncertain, Danny Ings is coming back from missing almost two entire seasons through injuries, and like Solanke himself, Divock Origi still seems too raw to lead the line.

Roberto Firmino is the player that was mostly entrusted with that task throughout the 2016/17 season, while the club have been linked with some high-profile attackers as well.

However, there is no doubt that Liverpool are getting a very talented young striker. Solanke will join the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben Woodburn, Ovie Ejaria, Marko Grujic and Danny Ward in making the future of the club look bright at the moment.

Solanke is currently in South Korea playing for England in the FIFA U20 World Cup, where he has so far made three appearances and scored one goal.
