Eden Hazard‘s Injuries Could End Chelsea’s Title Hopes
Firing on all cylinders he is unstoppable on his day. His trickery has led to him being the most fouled player in the Premier League, so it’s no surprise he picks up the odd knock.
Inconsistency has been a problem in the past, but Chelsea’s well-documented failures the season after a title success are a different story.
This season the Belgian wizard has shown glimpses of why he is so sought after. Real Madrid have not hidden their interest, and it remains to be seen whether he will eventually line-up at The Bernabeu.
One thing is letting the former Lille man down right now… Fitness! Niggly injuries are holding back his participation and form.
Hazard returned late after a glorious summer that saw Belgium reach the World Cup Semi-Final stage. With the risk of burnout, Maurizio Sarri made the decision to ease Hazard into the starting line-up.
Appearing from the bench during The Blues first two Premier League fixtures, Hazard weighed in with two assists. The Belgian then came to life as he marked his first start with a goal away to Newcastle United. That was followed up with another goal against Bournemouth. The highlight of the season came next with fabulous hat-trick against Cardiff City.
The 27-year-old then sat out Chelsea’s opening Europa League victory, before returning to Premier League action. A stunning Carabao Cup winner from the bench, at Anfield, had Blues fans salivating about exactly what they could achieve this season.
Another goal against Liverpool in the Premier League was to follow, and another fine performance as The Blues saw off Southampton.
Back Problem
A back problem suffered against Manchester United saw Hazard miss three fixtures against BATE Borisov, Burnley and Derby County. But to the relief of fans, he returned to action in a home clash with Crystal Palace.
On the whole, Chelsea didn’t suffer in his absence, but his form on returning has. An assist against Palace is all Hazard has to show from his last four appearances. Against Everton, he looked out of sorts, and similar struggles were evident at Wembley. Chelsea’s star attraction appears to have lost his mojo.
Injuries Mounting Up
Now Hazard is back on the treatment table. An ankle injury sustained against Tottenham has been described as ‘not being serious’ by blues boss Maurizio Sarri. However, Hazard will once again sit out The Blues Europa League date with PAOK.
It remains to be seen how long this knock keeps him out of action. It does give fans something to worry about though. Form is temporary, class is permanent, but if Eden Hazard’s injuries keep up, he won’t be able to show either.
