Tottenham Hotspur travel across London to play Crystal Palace in the Saturday evening kick off. Crystal Palace have struggled to get going this season and goals have been hard to come by. Tottenham target their seventh away win of the season. Last Word on Football looks ahead to this London Derby.
Palace Struggling Whilst Tottenham Target Seventh Away Win
As Crystal Palace look to kick start their season, they won’t want to see Tottenham arriving at Selhurst Park. The last four games between these two clubs have resulted in Spurs winning by one goal to nil.
Palace gave a decent account of themselves at Chelsea last time out but ran out of steam as they dropped more points. Spurs were cruising away to Wolves but ended up just hanging on to win 3-2. That result showed Spurs’ resilience and also the kind of frailties that have been associated with Spurs teams of old.
Spurs’ Wafer Thin Squad?
Much has been made of Spurs lack of signings in the summer yet Mauricio Pochettino has used more players this season than any other manager in the Premier League. He will need to do so again as Moussa Dembele is unlikely to play again in 2018 and Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen may start on the bench depending on their levels of fitness.
Off to the Palace
Crystal Palace sit 14th in the league table and another relegation battle seems likely. Tying Wilfried Zaha to a new contract signalled that Palace were optimistic this season but the results just haven’t come. It will be matches against those around them that will determine their season as opposed to games against the top six clubs.
Prediction
Spurs have not hit top gear this season but there have been signs against Wolves and in the Champions League against PSV that things are starting to click. Palace won’t want to contemplate that but a Spurs victory seems the likeliest result.
Prediction: Crystal Palace 1 Tottenham Hotspur 3
