Mehdi Benatia has proven himself as an amazing defender. He has won seven trophies in his career, being a key player in all his clubs. Although he already showed his worth, the Moroccan fell under the pecking order at Juventus. AC Milan and Manchester United have shortlisted the player as a possible signing in January.
Mehdi Benatia On Manchester United and AC Milan’s Radar
Sport Media Set state that both Red Devils have taken interest in the 31-year-old. The former Bayern Munich man has been a key player in Max Allegri’s squad, though nowadays he isn’t a regular starter anymore. The arrival of Leonardo Bonucci has pushed him out of the starting eleven. It is reported that Benatia only stayed at the club because of Mattia Caldara‘s departure to Milan. He has made only five appearances for his club, averaging 2.8 interceptions every league game. It is clear the Bianconeri do not need him anymore, opening the door to a departure.
Manchester United desperately need another centre-back. The summer transfer window hasn’t been too successful for the club as they look to reinforce the squad in January. Benatia is the perfect option with talent and experience. The price tag will be no problem as, reportedly, the Old Lady could let him go for as low as €15 million on a loan with an obligation to buy.
AC Milan also need a defender. The Rossoneri have only kept one league clean sheet this season, with defensive mistakes occurring on a regular basis. Milan fans have bad memories when they hear the defender’s name. Last season, Benatia netted two goals in the Coppa Italia final against the Milanese club. He would also be a great addition to the squad but the price tag could be an obstacle. AC Milan are going to face sanctions from UEFA over Financial Fair Play problems, limiting the amount the club can spend. Lucas Paqueta is going to be bought for €30 million, meaning the current transfer budget could be very low.
Benatia is expected to excel as he has done in all his previous teams, himself being a leader and a rock in defence. Remaining at Juventus is a possibility as he looks to try and fight his way back into the first team.
