Tottenham have completed the signing of Lucas Moura. The Brazilian has arrived from French giants Paris Saint-Germain for an undisclosed fee rumoured to be in the region of £33 million. The winger has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at PSG so far this season. The arrivals of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar have seen Moura make only five league appearances this season, all coming from the bench.
Lucas Moura adds top-class pedigree to Tottenham
Moura arrived in Paris in 2013. He was transferred to the French giants from Brazilian side Sao Paulo. He is believed to have cost PSG in the region of £38 million. In 152 league games he has contributed 33 goals. The Brazilian also has 36 caps for his country and has scored four times for the South Americans. Although he has won sixteen trophies in France including four league titles, he has failed to live up to the “wonderkid” status he arrived in Europe with. Moura was chased by many of Europe’s top clubs back in 2013 including Manchester United but settled on PSG. Despite doing reasonably well there, he has been frozen out this season and a transfer to Tottenham may be the catalyst that can restart his career.
Tottenham’s transfer window
The signing of Moura is in stark contrast to the clubs recent transfer dealings in January. The club has never spent over £15 million on a player in January and that signing was back in 2009. Moura will become Tottenham’s second highest ever incoming transfer. Following the loans of George Kevin N’koudou and Marcus Edwards, Spurs appeared to be light in the wing areas. Moura will provide cover and challenge for a starting spot.
Tottenham have a very young squad. The addition of a Brazil international with Champions League experience will benefit the squad hugely. Pochettino will be hoping to unlock his earlier potential and the move to an attacking side crying out for a player with Moura’s pace should be good motivation for the player.
