Grzegorz Krychowiak is coming good for West Brom after a slow start to life in the Premier League. The capture of Krychowiak by West Brom was seen by many as one of the coups of the summer. West Brom secured the midfielder’s services on a one-year loan deal. Tony Pulis lead Albion to a top ten finish last season and with the likes of Krychowiak joining the ranks, optimism surrounded the Hawthorns. This optimism would be nothing more than false hope, however, as West Brom and Krychowiak failed to impress early on.
By the time Pulis was sacked in November, West Brom were in free fall towards relegation. The performances of Krychowiak were highly criticised by fans and he soon found himself out of favour as rumours of West Brom cutting his loan spell short began to circulate. New manager Alan Pardew stuck with the Poland international though and it may be a decision that turns Albion’s season. Stellar performances in recent weeks leave the West Brom faithful finally seeing glimpses of the player they expected.
Grzegorz Krychowiak is Coming Good for West Brom
With his time at West Brom on the brink of a premature end and struggling to endear himself to fans, it seemed that Krychowiak’s foray into the Premier League would not end happily. Given the opportunity to play in West Brom’s new system, however, early signs show that Krychowiak is coming good for West Brom.
Krychowiak has spent recent weeks playing in a two-man midfield rather than the deep trio preferred by Pulis. Albion are now experiencing his best work as he is given more freedom to play his natural game under Pardew. He is now getting himself on the ball and joining attacking scenarios rather than camped inside his own half. He is a player used previously to solely break up opposition play is now assisting goals. His delightful pass to Jay Rodriguez created Albion’s goal against Everton this weekend; a beautifully caressed pass from the halfway line with the outside of his foot leaving the Everton defence for dead. Teammate Rodriguez got the goal but the pass did not escape notice.
A glimpse of the player that fans had been looking for showing that he could yet thrive in this West Brom side. It seems that West Brom may have been unwittingly hiding a caged animal at the Hawthorns. Alan Pardew has just released the lock.
Big Reputation
Krychowiak arrived at West Brom with a reputation that lead to big expectation from fans. A mainstay in the midfield of a very good Poland side, he represented his nation at Euro 2016 in France. Poland would make it to the knockout phase of the tournament, escaping their group unbeaten; a group that also housed Germany, before losing on penalties to eventual tournament winners Portugal.
His most successful period at club level came during his time at La Liga side Sevilla. He won back to back Europa League tournaments in 2014/15 and 2015/16 and forced himself into the La Liga Team of the Season in 2014/15, the only Sevilla player to be given the honour that year.
In the summer of 2016, Krychowiak signed a five year deal with French champions Paris Saint-Germain. With the French giants seemingly unable to find a place for Krychowiak, he could well be looking for a new home in the summer and therefore hoping to impress possible employers.
