The Hornets are in decent form with three wins in their last six games. They are coming off the back of a 3-1 win in midweek over Wrexham, which certainly boosted their play-off aspirations.

Watford Team News

Whilst many teams struggle with injuries, Watford is making use of their squad depth. This may be a reason for their good performance in midweek, as they swept aside Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham. Manager Ed Still touched upon this ahead of this weekend’s game. He said: “The squad is big and it’s going to keep on being really important for us.”

In terms of absences, Othmane Maamma, Kwadwo Baah and Jeremy Ngakia are all suffering from muscle problems. In addition to this, Jeremy Petris and Stephen Mfuni are also out with their own issues. Despite this, Watford have also had some positives as Mamadou Doumbia and Mattie Pollock returned to the hallowed turf on Tuesday. Pollock’s return was certainly impactful, with his manager full of praise for the performance. “He [Pollock] was wonderful, really good,” Still explained.

Ahead of the fixture, Rowett also discussedhis side’s availability. Although players are returning, it’s proving not enough for City to get over the line. They lost to QPR last time out as their home form continues to prove costly. Following the game, Rowett was even critical of his side. He said: ” I need to start looking at players who I can trust throughout, not just once or twice.”

As for injuries, many players are slowly returning. There are no fresh concerns, whilst Harry Souttar and Jannik Vestergaard are back in “certain situations”. The latter could be back after the international break, as could Asmir Begovic and Aaron Ramsey. These additions would certainly add more competition for places, though Rowett seems fairly set on the players he wants to use.

Younger talents such as Bade Aluko, Jeremy Monga and Louis Page aren’t the beneficiaries of this situation. Page has returned to the under-21s team after making 19 first-team appearances. Meanwhile, Aluko wasn’t in Saturday’s squad, and Monga has been an unused substitute in his last four games. This isn’t necessarily a surprise given the relegation fight City are embroiled in, though changes may be necessary if City want to see any change in results.
