Leicester Team News and Predicted Lineup vs Southampton

Last time out, Leicester City fell to a fifth defeat in their last seven league games. Mix this dire form with a six-point deduction, and City are now sat in 21st place, level on points with Blackburn in the relegation zone. It’s been a season full of lows, none more so than their 25-game run without a clean sheet. Even when attacking, the Foxes aren’t much better as they rarely create plenty of high-quality chances throughout a game. Regardless of the abysmal situation, the games are coming in quick succession; therefore, here is the Leicester predicted lineup to host Southampton.

Leicester Team News & Predicted Lineup vs Southampton in EFL Championship

How Leicester City Have Lined Up Recently

In Andy King’s second game in the hot seat, plenty of alterations finally came. Jakub Stolarczyk lost his place in the starting lineup as veteran Asmir Begovic took to the hallowed turf for the seventh time this season. At centre-back, Jamaal Lascelles made his debut with the club, following a transfer deadline day move. Alongside him was academy graduate Ben Nelson, the 21-year-old featured for the 15th time in league action this term. At right back, the Skipper Ricardo Peiera started, whilst on the opposite flank, Luke Thomas was in from the off.

In midfield,  Oliver Skipp returned after missing the back-to-back defeats at King Power. Next to him was another fresh face in the form of Joe Arbio, the Nigerian international, who is on loan from Southampton till the end of the season. Despite Bobby De Cordova Reid’s run in the starting eleven, the 33-year-old looks set to miss out on the game against the Saints after being sent off in the weekend’s game. A challenge after just 32 minutes put an end to any hopes of a victory, a similar lapse of judgement to Caleb Okoli’s the week prior.

In the attack, Stephy Mavdidi and Abdul Fatawu once again provided width. It was the latter who showed his undeniable quality with a moment of magic to bring the score level. Up top was Patson Daka as the Zambian International came into a league starting eleven for the first time since late November.

Leicester City’s Recent Form And Tactics

Against the Blues, the Foxes once again got off to a disastrous start. Ibrahim Osman was able to capitalise on an error from Leicester’s Periera, which consequently gave him the time and space to beat Begovic one-on-one. It was a mistake which really epitomises the dire state Leicester are in this season, as even their experienced figures can’t step up.

Despite this, Fatawu was able to provide an equaliser relatively soon after through a brilliant strike. The goal brought City’s number seven up to 14 goal contributions this season, a fairly decent return given the poor state of affairs elsewhere. However, levelling up procedures wasn’t enough as De Cordova Reid soon saw the red mist descend. It’s the fourth time a Leicester player has seen red in the first half in this campaign, another damning stat to emphasise this side’s major flaws.

As for the second half, Leicester only managed to muster up two shots, none of which were on target. Meanwhile, the home side had 79% of possession, and eventually found their reward. After just over an hour, Jay Stansfield was found with a run-in behind, and from there, the Blues’ forward struck across goal and past Begovic. The defeat sees City drop into 21st and now in grave danger of slotting into the relegation zone. With no new manager brought in, it seems like the desperate times are set to remain for the East Midlands outfit.

Leicester City Team News

Following last week’s defeat in Birmingham, more absences are an expectation heading into this clash against the Saints. Outside of injuries, De Cordova Reid serves uspesnions, whilst Aribo can’t play against his parent club. Harry Souttar and Aaron Ramsey remain the long-term players on the sidelines, whilst Jordan James is yet to return from an injury away at Wrexham. Jannik Vestergaard and Hamza Choudhury have also recently joined the trio, with a lengthy time out expected for both.
