Wolves Put Hefty Price Tag on Key Man Ahead of Deadline Day

The Premier League striker market is beginning to heat up ahead of the transfer deadline day, with Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jørgen Strand Larsen, a player once described by Alan Shearer as “Superb”, emerging as one of the most sought-after forwards. Interest in the Norwegian comes amid growing uncertainty surrounding Jean-Philippe Mateta’s future at Crystal Palace, with several clubs monitoring both situations closely.

Wolves Hold Firm On Strand Larsen Valuation

Strand Larsen has attracted strong interest this month, most notably from Leeds United, who are keen to add a reliable goalscorer to aid their survival push. The Wolves striker is understood to want to remain in the Premier League should he leave Molineux. This stance has only intensified competition for his signature.

Crystal Palace previously explored a move for the attacker in December but were deterred by Wolves’ £40 million asking price, which is still being floated around as a price tag.

Mateta Interest Adds Another Layer

Mateta has entered the final 18 months of his contract. Sky Sports News reports that Nottingham Forest are the latest side to register interest in the France international. Mateta is believed to want to leave Selhurst Park, though no formal transfer request has been submitted. Forest has also made inquiries about Strand Larsen, despite recently signing Lorenzo Lucca on loan from Napoli.

Aston Villa, long-term admirers of the Wanderers’ target man, now appear set to withdraw after agreeing an £18 million deal for Tammy Abraham from Besiktas. PSR considerations remain a key factor across the market, impacting Villa, Leeds, and Palace alike. Leeds, in particular, have so far failed to agree a deal with Wolves despite submitting a bid of around £33 million last week.

With Palace and Forest separated by just three points near the bottom of the table. Strained relations between the two clubs only add further intrigue. As deadline day approaches, Strand Larsen and Mateta remain central to a striker market that still has plenty of twists left to come.
