Oxford have three players missing for this fixture and long-term absentee Matt Phillips remains sidelined with a thigh injury.
Brodie Spencer – Foot
Edging closer to a return but still a doubt for this game is defender, Brodie Spencer. The full-back missed Northern Ireland’s final two World Cup qualifiers but should be back before Phillips.
Oxford Returning Players
Jack Currie – Knock
The other full-back Jack Currie was still a doubt for this game but Gary Rowett has confirmed he could be in contention. The defender picked up a knock in the draw against Millwall and has missed the last two league games as a result.
Middlesbrough Injury News
Abdoulaye Kante – Groin
Young midfielder Abdoulaye Kante will miss the game with a groin injury. The 20-year-old underwent a minor operation at the end of October.
George Edmondson – Hamstring
George Edmondson was due to play against Birmingham but picked up a knock in training. Former Boro boss Rob Edwards, who left to join Wolves at the start of the international break, confirmed he would miss “five to six weeks.”
Darragh Lenihan – Ankle
Defender Darragh Lenihan missed last season with a combination of injuries and has been struggling for fitness this season, too, with the 31-year-old still sidelined.
Seny Dieng – ACL
Goalkeeper Seny Dieng has missed over ten months with an Achilles injury and his future at the club could be in doubt with reports suggesting he could depart in January.
Middlesbrough Returning Players
Alfie Jones – Suspension
Defender Alfie Jones missed Boro’s win over Birmingham after picking up a red card in the draw at Leicester. However, he is in contention for an immediate return against the U’s.
Dael Fry – Muscle
A doubt for the game against Birmingham, Dael Fry was forced off against the Blues. However, the recovery during the international break may mean he’s in contention for this game.
Matt Targett – Muscle
And it’s a similar story for loanee, Matt Targett. The defender also played through the pain barrier against Birmingham but was forced off along with Fry.
