Gary Rowett Left Frustrated With International Call-Ups
Rowett was left frustrated with some of the situations surrounding players that were selected for the recent international break, he revealed ahead of Saturday’s game against Derby.
Ole Romeny and Ciaron Brown are both yet to play a competitive fixture this season but the duo were selected for Indonesia and Northern Ireland, respectively.
On the pair, Rowett said: “Yeah, it’s quite interesting, really. Because I think if you look at Ole’s (Romeny) case, Ole got, sort of, fast tracked very quickly, to try and be part of Indonesia’s very important World Cup games.
“In his position, he probably skipped a little bit of his rehab to try and do that. So now what we’ve got to do is make sure that we fill some of those gaps in a little bit for him.
On Brown, who didn’t play in the games against Slovakia and Germany, Rowett added: “Browny’s a slightly different one. I’ve got no issue with it, but the fact he went and didn’t play any minutes, you know, you could have obviously played minutes here in our under 21s.
“I was hoping if he had done that, we’d have known where he is. Obviously, they probably felt the same way, but he hasn’t played. So again, he didn’t get those minutes there, but he’s trained consistently well, and he’s trained consistently for us.
“I think as a club manager you just react off what the international managers do. They have to do what’s right for them and their nations and we made the decisions off the back of it. So in those two cases, slightly different, but again, we’ll try and make the best decisions we can.”
