With PSR issues looming over Leicester City, the urge to sell has been evident throughout the summer. Conor Coady, Mads Hermansen and Wilfred Ndidi have all departed, whilst others still could. Kasey McAteer, an academy graduate, is the next to follow suit, as the pure profit is helpful for the club’s financial battles.

Kasey McAteer Exits
As confirmed by Leicester City, McAteer leaves his “boyhood” club for Ipswich Town. The Tractor Boys are looking to strengthen following the lucrative sale of Omari Hutchinson, who joined Nottingham Forest. Kiernan McKenna’s side are winless in their first three fixtures of the season, with draws against Birmingham, Bromley and Southampton.

The winger joins for a £12 million fee, which they are spreading over three payments and includes add-ons. McAteer has completed his medical and signs a four-year deal with the East Anglia outfit.
He leaves the club after 15 years, having joined at eight years old, as a player who almost faced release due to a lack of physicality, but eventually reached the first team and became a prominent feature. Last season, he tallied one goal and one assist in 18 league appearances, which further highlights his importance as a squad player.
How Does This Affect Leicester City?
Losing an academy graduate and a hard-working player like McAteer is never ideal. He tracks back well, can play in multiple positions and has decent finishing as seen by some of his goals last time in the Championship. Furthermore, he is now an Irish international and someone who can fit into any squad.

However, when looking at the options out wide, City have more quality. Both Abdul Fatawu and Stephy Mavididi kept McAteer out of the side during the last Championship season, and 16-year-old Jeremy Monga is now ahead in the pecking order. Therefore, now seems like the right time to cash in and help the club with its major financial issues.
It’s no secret that the Foxes are still struggling to comply with the rules, and earning £12 million pure profit could be crucial. This should now also allow Marti Cifuentes to bring in his own players, after a dismal window for incomings. Mihailo Ivanovic and Joao Rego have been among the profiles City are interested in and could significantly strengthen the squad.
