Liverpool have started the summer transfer window off strong, already signing two big players as they are set to sign at least one more very soon. The board seem keen to reward new manager Arne Slot with big investment, though this will of course lead to much lower profit margins. The Reds now try to neutralise this spending with some revenue, including a big sale of Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen.
Liverpool Insert Clever Buy-Back Clause in Deal for Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen
£35 Million Deal Agreed for Jonathan Tah Replacement
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen have now agreed a £35 million deal for Quansah. £30 million of this will constitute the initial fee, whilst £5 million will be in add-ons, he reveals whilst giving his famous Here We Go.
Leverkusen sign the 22-year-old on a five-year deal as their Jonathan Tah replacement, Florian Plettenberg reveals. The German centre-back joined Bayern Munich on a free transfer before the Club World Cup; Quansah was reportedly Leverkusen’s top target to fill his shoes.

Romano exclusively reveals that The Reds will have a buy-back clause in the deal for their defender. This has been described as “genius”, with Quansah’s ceiling so high.
When Could Liverpool Activate Their Quansah Buy-Back Clause?
Some fans may be questioning why Liverpool would need a buy-back clause on a player that they would so willingly let go. It’s not as though Quansah’s ability has not yet come through, as he has played 58 games for the Merseyside outfit. However, it may be that they have quite strong intentions to activate this clause in a couple of years: this departure may have been a smart, short-term move.
Liverpool have already agreed a £130 million package for Florian Wirtz and have spent around £30 million on Jeremie Frimpong. A deal for Milos Kerkez has been agreed for £40 million, whilst they chase Marc Guehi. Selling Quansah now for £30 million and then buying him back in a couple of years could be a tactically smart short-term financial move to help balance the books.
Furthermore, at the moment Liverpool’s centre-back duo is locked in, with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate two of the best in the world. However, van Dijk is ageing and Konate’s contract runs out next summer. At some point, they could need a new centre-back and by that time Quansah may be at the perfect standard.
