‘I Decided’: Pep Guardiola Makes Bold Call at Manchester City

Manchester City endured a difficult 2024/25 campaign, winning only the Charity Shield. They ran into awful periods of form but did turn things around in the last part of the campaign to finish 3rd in the league. City traditionally held a player’s vote to appoint their captain, with Kyle Walker being elected last season before he departed for AC Milan. Pep Guardiola has decided after last season, that it’s time for a change, and has elected Bernardo Silva as the new captain.

Guardiola Praises Bernardo Silva

“With captains, it’s complicated sometimes, but at the same time it’s so simple. You have to put the team, your mates, the club, always in front of you all the time, and to ask all the time what is the best for the team. And when you decide what is the best for the team, you never make a mistake, never, ever, and this is what you have to do as captains, and I think Bernardo has been an incredible figure for us, many years here. Always in the bad moments, he knew he had to make a step up,” added Guardiola.
