Newcastle to ‘Step Up’ Pursuit for ‘Magic’ Forward After Learning that Player is Keen for St James’

Newcastle United’s interest in Joao Pedro has reportedly increased, as they monitor two other potential summer signings. After qualifying for the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League campaign, they will have extra cash to splash, as they are perhaps preparing for the loss of other attacking assets to rivals.

Newcastle United in Pursuit of Joao Pedro With Player Interested in Move

£60 Million Move

Luke Edwards, of The Telegraph, has revealed that Newcastle are set to “step up” their pursuit of Pedro. Whilst they are yet to make a formal offer to Brighton and Hove Albion, they have now learnt that the player would be interested in a move to St James’. Furthermore, it has been revealed that his club would allow a move “if a suitable bid is made having discussed the move with intermediaries”. The journalist anticipates a £60 million asking fee, which the Magpies would be willing to negotiate around.

The Seagulls have already acquired a new striker in Greek youngster, Charalampos Kostoulas, which could help facilitate this move. However, Newcastle will have to fight Chelsea, who are also interested. Alongside this, Anthony Elanga is a long-standing target, whilst they scout centre-back Ousmane Diomande on the continent.

Pedro Alongside Isak?

Whilst there have been rumours of Alexander Isak moving to rivals, such as Liverpool or Arsenal, this now looks more unlikely than not, with both sides linked to other strikers like Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko. If the Swede was to depart, however, Pedro would be a sound replacement due to his technical ability.

However, it seems far more likely that the Brazilian would be playing alongside Isak. With the Tyneside club also interested in Elanga, and previously Mohammed Kudus and Antoine Semenyo, it appears that they are trying to upgrade their attacking ranks, rather than solve one particular problem position.

The “magic” player can perform as an attacking-midfielder, which could work excellently with Isak just ahead of him. Howe was playing with two supporting attacking-midfielders towards the end of the season, though it is unclear whether this is permanent. Alternatively, it is possible that he could be disposable on the wing, potentially switching with the Swedish striker throughout a game. Pedro’s role could change throughout the season, and it looks like he won’t simply be an Isak replacement.
