Manchester City: ‘Expectation’ Remains ‘One of the Very Best’ Will Join - Gianluigi Donnarumma

Manchester City Beat Premier League Rivals in Race to Secure Versatile ‘Wonderkid’

Manchester City and Rosenborg have agreed a deal that will see 18-year-old Sverre Nypan trade his home country, Norway, for Manchester. The highly rated youngster has been linked to many clubs across Europe since his breakout season in 2023, where he played 26 games at just 16 years old.

Deal for Norwegian Youth International to Include Loan

Fabrizio Romano also added to Nypan’s announcement, as he understands that the talented midfielder is likely to go out on loan. This won’t come as a surprise given how busy the eight-time Premier League winners have been this summer.

Nypan will become the fifth signing of the summer so far, as he joins Tijani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait Nouri and Marcus Bettinelli. This level of activity was also expected after City’s shortcomings this season, as they finished just 3rd and lost the FA Cup final.

How Nypan Could Eventually Suit Manchester City

Although it is expected that the “wonderkid” will go out on loan for the upcoming season, he could become a major part of the Sky Blues in the future. Before committing to the blue side of Manchester, he was also linked to the likes of Arsenal, Aston Villa and others. Therefore, it is undeniable that the youngster was ready for a move.

In terms of playing style, he differs from January signing Omar Marmoush, who looks to run beyond Erling Haaland and even drive out wide. Whereas Nypan, in a sense, would be more reminiscent of a Kevin De Bruyne-type profile. This is because he’s able to be penetrative from tight spaces, with his through balls. This is also helped by him being ambipedal, which is another valuable asset as it opens up many more passing lanes.

In addition to this, Nypan could also play as more of a box-crasher. This would be more similar to the Ilkay Gündoğan role, which has seen major success over the years. Standing at six feet tall, Nypan would suit this role down to the ground, especially given his awareness and timing. He has even played as a centre-forward in his career.
