‘A Glimpse Into The Future’ – Brighton Looking At Possibility Of Losing Star Winger

Brighton was looking good for a European place a few weeks ago after a solid period of form. This does not look so likely anymore for Fabian Hurzeler’s team, after failing to win any of their previous four league games. It could lead to a ripple effect which may see the Seagulls lose one of their best players. Brighton may be looking at a future without star winger Kaoru Mitoma.

Brighton In Trouble Of Losing Kaoru Mitoma This Summer

Which Clubs Want To Sign Mitoma?

The Athletic’s Andy Naylor has reported that there are no active discussions to extend the Japanese winger’s deal, which runs out in 2027. With the possibility of European football returning to Brighton next season looking bleak, this increases the likeliness of Mitoma leaving the club in the summer.

The Seagulls already had to fend off the threat of a January exit, with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr having two large bids rejected. Brighton turned away the first bid of £54 million. They also rejected the second offer of £75 million. Adding to that, Mitoma rejected the chance to move abroad, something that he may reconsider in the next transfer window.

He also has huge admirers in England. Despite Mohamed Salah having signed a new deal, Liverpool looks to be in the market for a new winger. TEAMtalk have reported that Liverpool are big admirers of Brighton’s star winger, and have held a long-term interest in him. Chelsea and  Manchester United have also shown interest in the past. Brighton will not be willing to let him go unless teams can meet their £80 million valuation.

Why Brighton Are Reluctant To Sell Mitoma

As proved in the winter, Brighton do not want to sell their star winger. His seven goals and three assists in the Premier League this season have helped his team push for European football. His impact is also noticed when he is not involved. He was a major miss in Brighton’s 2-2 draw against Leicester City.

Naylor described it as a ‘glimpse into the future’, as he said: “His dribbling skills, direct running and goal involvements continue to make him a threat to opposing defenders.” He has nailed the left-wing spot down for Brighton for the last few years due to these attributes, with the 27-year-old having become one of Brighton’s best players. He was instrumental in their sixth-place finish in the 2022/23 campaign, as he grabbed 12 goal contributions in 33 matches.
