How Arsenal Have Lined-up Recently

David Raya kept a clean sheet on what was a historic night for Arsenal against Real Madrid in midweek.

The Gunners back four of Jurrien Timber, William Saliba, Jakub Kiwior and Myles Lewis-Skelly were able to keep Madrid’s array of attacking talent at bay.

Meanwhile, Declan Rice curled in two fantastic freekicks. He was supported by Martin Odegaard and Thomas Partey in midfield.

Mikel Merino was the other goalscorer. He started at centre-forward with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli on the flanks.

Arsenal Recent Form and Tactics

In their last six Premier League matches Arsenal have two wins, three draws and one loss.

Earlier this season Arsenal beat Brentford 3-1 at the Gtech Community Stadium, which was the Gunners’ fifth victory over the Bees in their last six encounters.

After the high of beating Real Madrid in midweek, Arsenal now turn their attention back to the Premier League. Their title race is more of a hopeful pursuit at this stage. The priority will no doubt be to focus on the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final.

So it would be no surprise to see Arteta rotate his squad against Brentford. But when asked by the press as to whether his side would leave some in the tank for the Madrid second leg, Arteta spoke about how often Arsenal have had to play mid-week games this season and be able to quickly reset and prepare for the next match, regardless of competition.

Arteta said: “You want to become a team that has the capacity to win in any of those [matches]. You have to do it every three days, regardless of what the scenario is.”

Arsenal Injuries and Absentees to Consider

Both Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice were subbed off after picking up knocks against Madrid. Arteta has confirmed that both are now fit and available to play against Brentford.

The Arsenal manager also gave updates on Riccardo Calafiori saying “to give you a timeline is difficult but he is progressing well.”

Other Arsenal players unavailable for this fixture include Takehiro Tomiyasu and Gabriel Jesus who are both still recovering from injury.

David Ornstein has said that Kai Havertz could be fit to return by the end of this season. He wrote: “It looks and sounds like his recovery is going well, so perhaps they’ll try to reintegrate him before the season finishes if it is safe to do so and there is something to play for. But let’s see — a lot of ‘ifs’ in that!”

Arteta commented on Havertz in the pre-Brentford presser: “Hopefully, we can have him back. [Before the end of the season]”.
