How Liverpool Have Lined-up Recently

Caoimhin Kelleher has started in Alisson Becker’s absence. Conor Bradley and Andy Robertson were rested in midweek, meaning Joe Gomez and Kostas Tsimikas started. Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are the staple centre-backs when fit.

Wataru Endo and Alexis Mac Allister are favourites in midfield. Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch, and Dominik Szoboszlai have all seen minutes alongside the duo.

The first-choice front three has Luis Diaz on the left, Mohamed Salah on the right, and Darwin Nunez through the middle.

Liverpool’s Recent Form and Tactics Ahead of Crystal Palace Match

Liverpool suffered a humiliating defeat to Atalanta in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final: 3-0 at home.

A large portion of the fans’ anger was directed towards the weak team selection: Tsimikas (who is arguably third-choice left-back) was exposed on numerous occasions before being substituted at half-time.

Jurgen Klopp made four substitutions before an hour had passed, all of whom were regular starters, but could not reverse his mistakes.

Nunez continued to disappoint, missing an expected goals (XG) of 0.93, including a one-on-one at 0-0. As a team, the Reds missed an XG of 2.60.

The third goal was a result of Szoboszlai giving the ball away in his own half, under no pressure. This turned Liverpool’s chances of qualifying in the second leg from improbable to almost impossible

Similarly to the Manchester United match just days prior, Liverpool have potentially cost themselves a trophy by missing great chances and giving goals away due to unforced errors.

Liverpool Injuries to Consider

Despite Trent Alexander-Arnold featuring in the most recent matchday squad, even though not fully fit. Klopp explained: “There was no chance to play [against Atalanta]…he was on the bench because we were allowed to put 23 players into the squad.”

The “feared” defender will certainly not start this one.

Diogo Jota returned in the Europa League, playing 15 minutes, and should be available for selection. Meanwhile, Stefan Bajcetic played 30 minutes for the U21s on April 12.

Alisson is “on the way back”. It looks unlikely for Thiago Alcantara or Joel Matip to return before the end of the season.
