The scoring spree continued with a  5-0 away win at Turf Moor and a 4-1 victory at the Emirates over Newcastle United.

In their last outing, Arteta’s Arsenal ran riot in the Steel City, thrashing rock-bottom Sheffield United 6-0, in which they scored five goals in the first half along. Not only did the Gunners score six against the Blades, but they also had 82% possession and 22 shots, with ten on target, illustrating the extent of their dominance.

Since the start of the new year, Arteta’s side have scored 31 goals in just seven games, averaging 4.4 strikes per game, more than any other team in Europe’s top five leagues this year. They have also kept the most clean sheets in the league this year with four. But they are not the only records broken. After their demolition of Sheffield United, they have scored the most goals in Premier League history across seven consecutive games, but more impressive than that, they have now become the only team in the league’s history to score two or more goals in nine consecutive halves of football.

Arteta is hindered by two injuries currently. Jurrien Timber has been injured since the start of the season when he picked up an injury against  Nottingham Forest in the opening game. He is expected to return to full fitness in late April. Takehiro Tomiyasu is also doubtful for the game.
