Liverpool Host Burnley at Anfield: Predictions and Best Odds

Liverpool Current Run of Form

Liverpool’s recent unbeaten run came to a halt at Arsenal last weekend. Jurgen Klopp’s side had been on an incredible run of games without defeat in all competitions stretching back to December 14th before their trip to The Emirates, where they lost 3-1 to the Gunners.

The Reds had been racking up the goals as well having beaten Chelsea 4-1, Norwich City 5-2, and Bournemouth 4-0, with a 1-1 draw at Fulham in between that saw them progress to the Carabao Cup Final on aggregate. The only game Liverpool haven’t scored in yet this season in any competition was the 0-0 with Manchester United before Christmas.

Klopp will be expecting his side to find their usual goal-scoring form in this game as the second-best attack in the league meets the second-worst defence.

Burnley Current Run of Form

Burnley have been stuck in a relegation battle since the get-go and currently sit 19th in the Premier League, seven points from safety and having played a game less than 17th place Luton Town. Vincent Kompany’s side are winless in their last six games which includes Liverpool’s trip to Turf Moor on Boxing Day.

Following that defeat, they have lost to Aston Villa and Manchester City in the league as well as Tottenham in the FA Cup with all three of those games being away from home. Their two home games in that time have produced draws against relegation rivals Luton and their most recent outing was a 2-2 draw with Fulham.

Late goals have been the story of Burnley’s recent games. David Fofana netted a stoppage-time equaliser against Fulham but the Clarets have largely been on the wrong end of them, succumbing to a 92nd-minute equaliser against Luton and conceding a decisive 89th-minute penalty in the defeat to Aston Villa.

Recent Head-to-Head

The most recent meeting between the sides was the previously mentioned game at Turf Moor on Boxing Day. Liverpool ran out as relatively comfortable 2-0 winners on that day with Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota both finding the net. It would prove to be the start of a positive run of form for the pair.

The previous meetings between the sides came in the 2021/22 season as Burnley spent last year in the Championship. The Reds did the double over the Clarets winning 2-0 and 1-0 respectively. Burnley haven’t scored against Liverpool since January 2021 when they achieved a rare 1-0 win at Anfield, their first since 1974.

Liverpool vs Burnley Prediction

It’s hard to see beyond Liverpool getting the three points in this game. The Reds were poor at Arsenal last weekend but that is a completely different proposition to the one they face here. Klopp’s men are currently unbeaten at Anfield and have only dropped points at home to Arsenal and Manchester United. They’ve also hit some big numbers in games against bottom-half sides of late.

Burnley’s away record is better than their home one but not by much, having picked up eight points on the road compared to five at Turf Moor. They can take some hope from the fact they have scored at Arsenal, Manchester City, and Aston Villa this season however they still lost all of those games, conceding three in each.

Prediction: Liverpool win 3-0.
