Journalist Reveals Newcastle United Face Possible Departure of ‘Incredible’ Defender as Deal ‘Is Still Possible’

Newcastle United are in danger of losing Kieran Trippier as Bayern Munich show interest.

Newcastle United secured a historic qualification for last year’s Champions League group stage due to their top-four finish in the 2022/23 edition of the Premier League. A last-place finish in their group, coupled with a current mid-table standing in the English top flight, could get worse if they lose Kieran Trippier to European giants Bayern Munich.

Report from Germany on Potential Transfer Deal

Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg tweeted Sunday afternoon that Newcastle right-back Kieran Trippier’s transfer to Bundesliga outfit Bayern Munich “is still possible.” The two clubs have entered into negotiations, and have until the end of the January window to finalize a move.

Newcastle are “demanding a permanent deal or obligation to buy” for around £12 million. Trippier would be able to sign a contract with the Bavarian club keeping him in Germany until 2025. A native of the Greater Manchester area, the 33-year-old veteran is a product of Manchester City’s youth academy.

Kieran Trippier’s Footballing Experience

Despite graduating from City’s academy, Trippier never made an appearance for The Sky Blues. Loans to Barnsley and Burnley got his name on the map, with the Clarets deciding to bring him in on a permanent transfer. After four successful seasons at Turf Moor, the defender was purchased by Tottenham in 2015.

Four years with Spurs were highlighted by making the 2018/19 Champions League Final. From there, Trippier moved on to Atletico Madrid, winning the 2020/21 La Liga title. Newcastle signed him during the 2022 January transfer window. Described as an “incredible” defender, the Englishman has plenty to offer Bayern as they pursue another European title.
