Casemiro & Lisandro Martinez Set For Highly Anticipated Return

Speaking to reporters in a Friday press conference, the former Ajax boss revealed that Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez have trained with the first team and are “coming in for selection for Sunday”. The Red Devils have found themselves adrift in the top-four battle, sat in eighth place and seven points behind fifth-placed opposition Spurs.

The duo joined after the start of the 2022/23 season, with the 24-year-old centre-back from Ten Hag’s former club reunited with his former boss after a £55 million transfer. Casemiro joined a month later as Real Madrid were willing to part ways with the Brazillian veteran for an overall offer of £70 million.

Their impact was undeniable and when fit, they massively improved the side. United finished in third place in the league and won the Carabou Cup against Newcastle United, however, they ultimately fell short in Europe and in their FA Cup final against bitter rivals Manchester City.

Tottenham Hotspur News: Son Out, Dragusin In

Ange Postecoglou’s side will be missing Son Heung-Min who is on international duty for South Korea at the Asia Cup, but may have a boost from new signing Radu Dragusin. He joins from Genoa as part of a £26.7 million deal as reported by Sky Sports.

Former Chelsea forward Timo Werner will also be available after joining on loan this month, while a decision on Christian Romero’s fitness will be made on Saturday. Ben Davies and Giovani Lo Celso are reportedly still sidelined with injuries.

How Erik ten Hag’s Side Have Lined Up

Despite Andre Onana’s tough start to life at Manchester United, Ten Hag has stood by his keeper, who will make a final contribution against Spurs before leaving to represent Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations. Luke Shaw has been the preferred left-back when fit, while Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans have been the recent centre-back selections in Lisandro Martinez’s absence.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot have been rotated in the right-back spot, however, Dalot has been moved to the left when Shaw is unavailable. In Casemiro’s absence, Scott McTominay had been preferred in central defensive midfield, however, recent games have seen the Dutch head coach shift towards a more possession-focused approach by using 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo and Christian Eriksen.

Captain Bruno Fernandes starts in central attacking midfield, while Alejandro Garnacho’s performances have helped him usurp Antony for a starting spot on the right wing. Marcus Rashford appears to have retaken his position on the left, while Rasmus Hojlund leads the line for the Red Devils.

Along with the huge boost from the returns of Martinez & Casemiro, Ten Hag told reporters that Amad Diallo and Antony are available, while Christian Eriksen has recovered from illness. While Luke Shaw is a doubt to start the match, he has also trained with the squad ahead of their match against Tottenham.

20-year-old Hannibal Mejbri had earned some minutes early in United’s troubled season but has recently been linked with a loan move away from Old Trafford. The Athletic has reported that both Sevilla and Everton are interested in the Tunisian prospect.

Exiled Jadon Sancho has joined Borussia Dortmund on loan and could make his debut for the second time for Edin Terzic’s side who face Darmstadt.
