Arsenal Keeping Close Attention On £50 Million ‘Extraordinary’ Striker

Bologna squad lined up during penalty shootout

Arsenal have not had the most eventful of starts to the year 2024 after being knocked out of the FA Cup third round following a loss to Liverpool. The Gunners haven’t scored a goal in their last two home games and seem to be monitoring possible striker options to sign in the future, one of whom is Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee.

The Telegraph has reported that they are admirers of the 22-year-old forward after watching him impress in the Serie A and that they are keeping a close eye on the striker, whom they consider among potential transfer targets to improve their forward line.

However, it is also added that any move to sign a new striker can be extremely complicated for Arsenal and that Bologna would want a fee of around £50 million to sell their young forward. That could be a stumbling block for the North London side, as the Telegraph indicates that they need to be careful with finances after spending over £200 million on new players in the summer transfer window last year.

Can Arsenal Sign New Striker In January?

The fanbase have been crying out for the club to sign a new forward in the summer and get in someone who can improve their goal-scoring prowess and add more goal numbers to the squad. However, Mikel Arteta has already indicated that it “does not look realistic” when asked about whether his side will spend big money on a new striker in the January window.

That might indicate that any possible move for Zirkzee won’t happen before the summer window, with the Gunners hoping that his transfer price tag does not go up. The Dutch forward has been impressing for Bologna in Serie A this season, scoring eight goals and providing four assists in 22 appearances. The 22-year-old, who was hailed for possessing “extraordinary” qualities last year, has also played for Bayern Munich in the past and scored seven goals in 19 appearances for the Netherlands under-21 team in his career.
