‘Does Not Look Realistic’: Arsenal Fans Receive Disappointing Transfer Message

Mikel Arteta watches on from the touch line

Arsenal saw their 2024 go off to the worst possible start after being knocked out of the FA Cup third round with a bitter 2-0 loss to Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium. Despite dominating the majority of the game, the Gunners came up short and Mikel Arteta got posed with questions about his side’s inability to score goals.

What Did Mikel Arteta Say About Arsenal’s Striker Ambitions?

After the loss to Jurgen Klopp’s side, Arteta gave a rather bitter update on his side’s chances of signing a new centre-forward in the winter window. When asked about fans demanding a new striker signing, he said: “At the moment it does not look realistic. What my job is, and what we have to do is improve our players and try to get better results with the players we have.

“What I beg from the supporters is that they are behind the team like they have been in difficult moments. Stick behind the ones that we have. They are incredibly good. If not then they don’t do what they’ve done today and in Anfield. Stick by them. That’s exactly what they need. Then they feel important and supported. With their attitude, they don’t deserve anything different. That’s my opinion.”

Arsenal Goal-Scoring Problems Threaten To Derail Their Campaign

The Gunners have been troubled by their inability to convert chances in recent weeks, which threatens to destroy all the good work they did until the Christmas period. Even though they topped the Premier League table on Christmas, they are now fourth in the standings and five points behind leaders Liverpool, who also ended their FA Cup dreams.

To make things worse, Arsenal have lost striker Gabriel Jesus to an injury and have seen their goal-scoring options further depleted. Arteta has seen his side only score one goal in three games, and go goalless in their last two home games too.

Even though they are reported to hold interest in signing Brentford star Ivan Toney, his rumoured £100 million price tag could make it near impossible to sign in the winter window after they splashed big money to sign Declan Rice and Kai Havertz last summer. The Spanish coach will hope his existing striker options find their best form soon and can get the squad back firing on all cylinders.
