‘Still Early Stages’: Journalist Explains What Tottenham Hotspur Must Do To Sign ‘Truly Fantastic’ Striker

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Feyenoord's Santiago Gimenez.

Tottenham Hotspur decided to part ways with star forward Harry Kane and sell him to Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window but are yet to sign a replacement for him. It appears that they are continuing their hunt for the right man and continue to be linked to a move for Feyenoord forward Santiago Gimenez in 2024.

What Do Spurs Need To Do To Improve Their Chances Of Signing Gimenez?

Fabrizio Romano has acknowledged the Lilywhites’ links to the Mexican forward, who broke Luis Suarez’s record in the Netherlands for most goals scored in a single calendar year in the country. The journalist states that he would not be surprised if Gimenez was to secure a big-money move somewhere next year, but any prospect of a transfer is “still in early stages”.

He also adds that Gimenez’s father is going to be an important figure in anything related to a future move as he is in charge of discussing any potential transfers. Romano also claims that another important thing to consider is that the relationship between Tottenham and Feyenoord developed small issues when the Premier League side tried to snatch away their manager Arne Slot earlier this year.

While that is nothing serious, Spurs will need to fix those issues in their working relations with the Dutch club before being able to move forward with any intention to sign the Mexican striker.  Moreover, they also have to convince his father that a move to North London is ideal for his son’s career development to get the deal over the line.

What Can Gimenez Bring To Tottenham?

After the departure of Kane, Ange Postecoglou has mostly been forced to play Son Heung-min in a centre-forward role. Even though the Spurs captain has mostly thrived there, his heroics in the 4-1 win over Newcastle United prove he’s at his best when operating from the left wing. Richarlison is yet to prove himself as a lethal, consistent goal-scorer, which is why the Lilywhites might want to make a move for Gimenez.

The 22-year-old forward has been in splendid form this season, having scored 20 goals in 19 appearances for his side. He has 43 goals in just 64 games for Feyenoord and is a menace in the final third, being blessed with impressive pace and admirable finishing. The Mexican forward can add a bigger goal-scoring threat for Spurs and improve their efficiency in the box.

Gimenez, who was hailed as “truly fantastic” earlier this season, can be a solid addition to Postecogolou’s squad but it remains to be seen if they make a move for him next year.
