The Atheltic Reports

Watkins is integral to Unai Emery’s plan to return Villa to European football. Additionally, the forward has earned a handful of call-ups with Gareth Southgate’s English Team. 50 goals in 128 fixtures have the 27-year-old flying high at the moment.

While his first England cap came back in 2021, his recent games have been very fruitful. He was re-called by Southgate for the October fixtures and will look to add to his National Team goal tally. “It’s definitely been a memorable week for me and one that I’ll never forget,” said the in form striker.

Villa Form This Season

Watkins’ presence as a “special” player has led Villa to fifth place in the Premier League. Tied with Brighton & Hove Albion on 15 points, only one win separates them from league leaders Manchester City. A loss to Everton in the EFL Cup has shifted their focus onto the two remaining competitions.

A shock loss to Legia Warsaw in the Europa Conference League suggested that Villa were not pursuing a long run in Europe this campaign. Thursday’s win over HŠK Zrinjski Mostar, albeit very late, proves otherwise. The Villans, led by Emery and Watkins, will seemingly be a threat this season.
