Romano Reveals Chelsea Almost Signed Three Top International Stars in the Summer Transfer Window

Chelsea had a very busy transfer window with a number of incomings and outgoings. Fabrizio Romano revealed that they were offered many players during the window and they nearly signed three top players before they moved elsewhere.

The Blues Were in Talks With Midfield Duo

Romano reported that the Londoners were in contact with two highly regarded midfielders during the recently culminated transfer window. However, they eventually decided to go for younger options, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. The reliable journalist wrote: “Chelsea decided to go for a different kind of midfielder, both in terms of skills and in terms of age – they preferred to go for Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, while they also had Enzo Fernandez.”

Former PSG star, Marco Verratti “was a possibility” for the Stamford Bridge side according to the Italian journalist. The veteran midfielder was offered to the Premier League team. However, due to the Parisian club’s high transfer fee demand and the Italian’s exorbitant salary the 2021 Champions League winners decided not to pursue the transfer.

Croatian midfielder, Marcelo Brozovic was also offered to the Mauricio Pochettino-led side. There were contacts between the parties over a potential transfer but the player eventually ended up moving to Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.

Manchester United’s New Star Almost Signed For Chelsea

According to reports, Andre Onana could have signed for the Blues before he moved to their domestic rivals instead. United signed the Cameroon international from Inter Milan for a package in excess of £45 million.

The former Ajax man was discussed as a part of a potential deal for Kalidou Koulibaly according to the transfer market expert. The London-based team eventually decided not to move forward with the negotiations and the Senegalese centre-back also moved to the Saudi Pro League.
