Gonzalo Montiel Set to Join Nottingham Forest on Loan

Medical Tests Complete

Argentina’s “world cup hero“, Montiel is set to play in the Premier League in the 2023/24 season with Forest according to Romano. The Italian journalist revealed on his social media that the “medical has been completed” for the right-back . The Premier League club will get the player on a loan deal with a potential obligation to buy. The purchase clause has been set close to a reported value of £9.5 million. This might turn out to be a bargain for them if the player’s performances in the 2022 World Cup are anything to go by.

The English side narrowly escaped relegation last season, finishing just four points above the drop zone in 16th place. They conceded a total of 68 goals over the course of the last campaign. In a bid to avoid another relegation battle, they have seemingly agreed to sign the Argentine defender to strengthen their backline.

Who is Gonzalo Montiel?

Montiel made his name playing in Argentina with River Plate. The right-back quickly became a target for clubs in Europe and Sevilla snapped up the defender in the summer of 2021. The solid full-back is equally adept at defending as well as going forward. He is very strong in one-on-one defensive duels and rarely comes out on the losing side.

Going forward, the 26-year-old possesses a strong passing game with precisely weighted passes and good combination play. He is excellent at progressing the play by playing driven balls into the feet of midfielders and forward from the wide deep position. Although not rapidly quick, he makes up for it with his accurate wicked crosses and link-up play in the final third. His ability to contribute at the highest level on both ends of the pitch can be a huge asset for Forest.
