As the summer transfer window enters its final couple of weeks, Manchester United are still looking to secure a number of targets with their latest priority being revealed this week. Recent reports indicate that the club have identified and are now vigorously pushing to secure the signing of Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich. The French defender’s “very open” to a move and his refusal to sign a new deal with the Bavarian giants has opened the door for a potential transfer to Old Trafford.

Talks Continue After Rejected Bid

This is according to Florian Plettenberg who has shed light on Manchester United’s intentions. It appears that the Red Devils are making their intentions clear by actively pursuing the Frenchman. An initial “official offer” was tabled to Bayern Munich in an attempt to secure a deal quickly, which was rejected.

Although the offer was met with rejection, Pavard’s willingness to embrace a new chapter is evident. Plettenberg reports that there is a “verbal agreement in principle” between the player and the club, hinting that a move could happen if a transfer fee can be agreed.

Pavard Wants Move

Further solidifying the pursuit, Fabrizio Romano provided insights into the ongoing negotiations. He backs up reports that United had officially initiated contact with Bayern Munich regarding a deal for the “superb” defender. And, with his existing contract set to expire in June 2024 and no signs he wants to renew, the Red Devils may feel more confident in completing the deal. Bayern could choose to cash in on a player wanting a move in a bid to stop him leaving for free next summer. An update from Alfredo Pedulla has indicated that Pavard “wants to leave” Bayern Munich.

Signing Adds Valuable Experience

After winning the World Cup with France in 2018, Pavard moved from Stuttgart to the defending Bundesliga champions and signed a five-year contract. He has achieved great success in Bavaria, taking home four German championships, a Champions League, and one German Cup, among other notable achievements.

Within Ten Hag’s United system, Pavard would create competition at right-back and contend with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot for a starting position.
