Eric Bailly Edges Closer to Old Trafford Exit

Bailly looks set to join Harry Maguire out of Old Trafford this summer, with the former United captain seemingly on the verge of joining West Ham United. The England international has made 175 appearances for his current employers, scoring seven times in that period.

The 29-year-old Ivory Coast international Bailly has made 113 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring once, since his arrival in 2016. He has consistently picked up injuries during this time – severely affecting his chances of becoming a regular at the Theatre of Dreams. His performance levels have dropped when called upon as a result, and apart from a couple of impressive cup performances over the years, we have not seen the best of the defender since his first season at the club.

New Start in Turkey

According to Fabrizio Romano, Turkish side Besiktas have agreed personal terms for the out of favour defender. There had been rumours that he may move to the Saudi league with a couple of clubs interested, but Turkey appears to be his next destination. Besiktas finished 3rd last season and are competing in the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.

The move would be beneficial to both sides as it could be argued that Bailly is the fifth-choice centre-back for United while being on a reported 100k per week, with just a year left to run on his contract with the option of another year. Besiktas have an injury crisis at the back, with two current centre-backs expected to be out for several months. If the deal goes through, he would join Daniel Amartey, Arthur Masuaku and Ante Rebic, who have arrived from Leicester, West Ham and AC Milan.
