Squad Trimmed

Erik ten Hag will look to trim his squad ahead of the next season in order to make room for new signings. David de Gea, the long-serving goalkeeper is set to leave Old Trafford and club captain Harry Maguire, was stripped of his captaincy and is linked with a move away from United. It was reported that as many as 13 United players will be put up for sale by the English club in order to fund Ten Hag’s rebuild and incoming transfers.

The former Ajax coach signed crucial players in his debut season at the club, including the signings of Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen. United saw a resurgence of sorts in the Dutch manager’s first season with a third-place finish only coming behind Manchester City and title challengers Arsenal, qualifying for the Champions League after missing out in the previous campaign.

Alex Telles Set for an Exit After Three Seasons

Alex Telles, the Red Devils’ left-back is set to leave the club after three underwhelming years. The former Benfica man will reunite with his former teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr. Romano reported that the Saudi Pro League club wants the player to join in the next few days. The Italian journalist conveyed through his social media that both sides have reached an agreement and the deal is in place for the defender’s signing.

The transfer market expert revealed that the transfer fee has been agreed at £4m fixed plus add-ons, with the United player earning a salary of 7m net per season plus add-ons. Romano wrote on his twitter handle that: “Alex Telles to Al Nassr, done deal and here we go! Agreement ready after deal revealed earlier today. Understand Manchester United will receive £4m fixed fee plus add-ons. Romano followed up with details of the salary on offer: “Told salary will be £7m net per season plus add-ons”

Time at Old Trafford

The Brazilian international did not enjoy the best of spells in England, having had three underwhelming seasons as a United player including one season on loan at Sevilla. The defender was signed from Benfica in the summer of 2020 on the back of a very impressive term where he contributed 13 goals and provided 12 assists in 49 games from the Left back position.

He failed to replicate those performances at Old Trafford having only played 30 times in the Premier League over his first two seasons before being sent out on loan to Sevilla for the 2022-23 season. He has not played under the new boss coach even once and it is very clear that the Dutch boss prefers Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia in the left-back position. A move away from the English club makes sense for the left-back to get his career back on track. These struggles have led to some outlets labelling the player  a “flop”

Telles is set to be the next in line of household names moving to the Saudi Pro League from Europe, following in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo who joined the Saudi outfit last summer. The Brazilian will face off against the likes of Ruben Neves, Karim Benzema and Roberto Firmino who have made the move to the country this summer.
