Manchester United Fail to Sign Vitor Roque

How Much United Offered for Roque Revealed

The Athletico Paranaense youth product caught the eye with his heroics for them over the last year, having scored 15 goals and provided six assists in all competitions for the Brazilian club at such a young age.

The Catalan giants ultimately sealed the deal to sign him for around £34.2 million, but his agent Andre Cury has revealed that United and Tottenham Hotspur both tried to hijack the deal. He said: “I can confirm that English clubs tried to hijack Roque deal. Tottenham and Manchester United sent important bids, way better than Barça; close to €100 million (£85 million). Vitor only wanted Barça, there was no chance to change his mind.”

The Red Devils might have been scouting the Brazilian teenager for some time, so they tried to hijack the move for him. They are also in need of a new striker, having struggled for goals in the Premier League last season and finished among the lowest scorers in the top half of the table. However, Roque’s obsession to join Barcelona has seen him reject lucrative offers as he’s set to link up with his new teammates in 2024.

Which Striker Are United Now Prioritizing?

After seeing Anthony Martial struggle with fitness in the 2022/23 term, the club are reported to have added Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund to the top of their striker list.

The Danish striker had an impressive 2022/23 campaign too, scoring 12 goals and providing seven assists across all competitions – which has caught United’s attention. Now that they’ve missed out on the Brazilian sensation, who was hailed as ‘brilliant’ by ex-Manchester City captain Fernandinho earlier this year,  the Red Devils will look to seal other targets and strengthen their squad – having only signed Mason Mount in the summer window so far.
