Andre Onana Still Gunning for Manchester United Move

Chelsea Back Out of Onana Race

The Cameroonian goalkeeper was one of the stars of Inter’s impressive run in the UEFA Champions League last season and played a key role in helping them make it all the way to the final, where they ultimately lost to Manchester City.

Romano states that the player is already prepared to say yes to a move to Old Trafford as long as the two clubs are able to agree on a fee. The 27-year-old is still ‘very open’ to the prospect of reuniting with Erik ten Hag, who helped him impress for Ajax during their time together at the Dutch club.

It’s also added by Romano that Chelsea consider the possibility of signing the Inter goalkeeper as ‘too expensive’ and have backed out of the race. The Blues are now touted to be looking for a backup goalkeeper to Kepa Arrizabalaga. Onana is reported to be valued at around £40 Million to £50 Million by Inter after excelling in his debut season for them.

Can Onana Usher in a New Era at United?

David de Gea is officially a free agent after his contract with the Manchester giants expires on July 1, with the two sides as yet unable to find any agreement on a new deal. It appears that the Red Devils could be looking at a future without the Spaniard and retain an interest in replacing him with a Champions League finalist.

Onana earned a lot of plaudits for his heroics last season, with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola hailing him as ‘exceptional’ ahead of their meeting last season.  The 27-year-old goalkeeper is renowned for his shot-stopping ability as well as his impressive distribution style, as he also knows how to thrive under Ten Hag. He made 41 appearances for the Nerrazzurri last season, keeping 19 clean sheets – including eight in the Champions League.
