Former Luton Town defender Jack Senior has joined Doncaster Rovers after leaving National League side Halifax Town.

The 26-year-old left-back strengthens Rovers further as the fifth arrival since Grant McCann’s appointment as manager.

He has signed a two-year contract with the League Two side.

Fifth Signing

Jack Senior signed for Luton in 2016 after leaving Huddersfield Town’s academy. He made 24 appearances for the now-Premier League side, leaving the club shortly after a loan with Harrogate Town in 2019.

After a spell with Gloucester City, he has spent the last three years with boyhood club Halifax Town, captaining them to FA Trophy success at Wembley Stadium just weeks ago.

He returns to the EFL with Doncaster after over 100 appearances for Halifax.

Senior told the club website: “I’m very pleased. It’s a step in the right direction for me. When it came about, it was something that I was dying to see where it could go.

“It’s all been done very smoothly and now it’s done, I’m so happy to be here and I can’t wait to get going.”

Four of Rovers’ five signings so far have seen them improve the backline, including with goalkeeper Ian Lawlor’s return to the Eco-Power Stadium.

Senior will compete with James Maxwell, who joined from Rangers last summer, at left-back

Rovers Sign ‘Winner’ at Left-Back

Speaking on Senior’s arrival, manager Grant McCann told the club website: “Jack is a really good player – someone I’ve liked for a long time, since way back when he was at Luton.

“His career has gone really well. He’s had to take a step back to go again and in the last three seasons at Halifax, he’s just improved and got better.

“He’s got a real good mentality and he picked up a trophy last season with them, which was brilliant. Bringing people like him into the club – a winner, as well as his ability – I think it’s an excellent signing for us.”

Rovers had a torrid end to the last campaign finishing 18th in League Two having started the season with hopes of at least reaching the play-offs.

Grant McCann’s arrival and subsequent transfers, following an injection of significant funds into the playing budget, is the start of an effort to turn that around and have the club competing at the top as they look to return to League One after being relegated in 2021/22.
