The Gunners have identified midfield reinforcements as a priority, targeting the signings of West Ham United’s Declan Rice and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo.

In the 2022-23 Premier League season, the Hammers’ club captain has showcased his defensive capabilities with impressive numbers. He has recorded an average of 2.30 tackles per game, 1.80 interceptions,  and 1.57 clearances. Furthermore, his passing accuracy stands at an impressive 86% showing that he can operate as more than just a disruptor on the defensive end. The North London club would benefit greatly with a leader like Rice in their ranks.

Why Moises Caicedo?

Moises Caicedo is a rising star from Ecuador who has caught the attention of top clubs with his energetic displays and box-to-box style of play. Moreover, his performances have propelled Brighton, who are in the hunt for European football, to sixth place in the Premier League.

The 21-year old midfielder is known for his ability to break up plays and also provide cover for his defensive counterparts when needed. He ranks second in the league for tackles made, while having an impressive 6.31 progressive passes made per 90. He also fits the profile of the young players Arteta has signed in recent transfer windows.

The Gunners’ Focus On Adding More Depth to the Squad

Arsenal’s pursuit of midfield reinforcements comes as no surprise, especially with the uncertainty surrounding Granit Xhaka’s future and Thomas Partey’s recurring injury concerns. The Swiss international has been linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen, potentially leaving a void in midfield.
