According to Fabrizio Romano via an interview with Football Daily, N’Golo Kante has spoken out on his future with Chelsea. During the interview, the French international midfielder spoke of his desire to remain at Stamford Bridge.

Kante Wishes to Remain at Stamford Bridge

Kante has enjoyed a frustrating season missing most of the campaign through injury. His return to the Chelsea team has been a rare bright spot for The Blues this season. The 32-year-old midfielder’s current contract is due to expire at the end of this season, with Barcelona reportedly targeting the Frenchman. Recent reports have however indicated that talks between the player and club have progressed well.

During the interview with Football Daily, Kante was adamant regarding where he sees his future. “I want to be part of Chelsea’s future, for sure. It’s an exciting project,” said the Frenchman. The midfielder added “Unfortunately this season was not at Chelsea level but we want to go the way of success. Let’s see where I will be but I hope here.” According to previous reports, Kante is expected to sign a two-year deal until 2025, with Chelsea having the option to extend the contract for a further year.

Kante arrived at Chelsea from Leicester for a fee believed to be in the region of £30m in 2016. He has enjoyed a trophy-laden stay with The Blues, winning the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup while being labelled “fantastic and unique” by former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.

He has been a vital part of Chelsea’s success, despite the injury problems throughout his time at Stamford Bridge. He brings an unbelievable engine to the Stamford Bridge midfield with his constant moving and pressing the opposition. He also links attacks well by picking up pockets of space and combining with his more attacking teammates. He times his tackles impeccably and is brilliant at breaking the play up and intercepting passes. Despite the injuries, Kante has shown since his return to the team that he still has plenty of positives to bring to the Chelsea squad.
