Arsenal Face Stiff Competition for £25K-Per-Week Midfielder Hailed as ‘Incredible’ by Pep Guardiola

Romeo Lavia carries the ball forward for Southampton

Arsenal are in the race to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia in the summer transfer window, claims Fabrizio Romano. The 19-year-old left Manchester City to join the Saints last summer and has been among their best performers in a disappointing Premier League season.

Arsenal Will Face Competition for Lavia Signing

Even though he is likely to be relegated from the Premier League with Southampton, who are currently in the 20th position, Lavia has managed to win over many clubs with his impressive performances throughout this season. He’s also rumoured to be earning low wages of just £25,000 a week.

Romano adds that the Gunners are monitoring his situation ahead of the summer window, but they will also face competition from Chelsea and Manchester City for the teenager. The Citizens remain impressed by him and they added a clause in his exit deal, which allows them a buy-back option which will only be viable in 2024.

As a result, Romano claims that any other club can push to sign him in the summer window. He also states that the race for his signature looks ‘absolutely open’, which means the North London outfit will have to work hard to secure his acquisition over a rival club.

How Can Lavia Fit In at Arsenal?

Arsenal are reported to be looking to add more depth to their midfield line next season and have been linked to a summer move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo in the summer too. Moreover, it’s also been reported that the Gunners might lose promising young midfielder Charlie Patino, which could force Mikel Arteta to look for another promising young talent that can be a great fit for the long term.

Lavia is an energetic, hard-working midfielder who thrives under pressure. He can move the ball around well and win it efficiently as well, having produced some impressive performances in the league this season. He scored one goal in 25 Premier League appearances this season and was praised by Pep Guardiola, who recently claimed that he held an ‘incredible’ opinion of him. The Belgian might suffer the heartbreak of relegation soon, but it remains to be seen which club is ready to pick him up after the season is over.
