According to David Ornstein from the Athletic, Chelsea are set to reach an agreement to extend the contract of England international full-back Ben Chilwell from 2025 until 2027. Frank Lampard is expected to leave the club at the end of the season and be replaced by a permanent head coach. The incoming coach will surely want to keep key established players, such as Chilwell.

Chelsea Wing-Back Close to Extending Stay
Chilwell, according to reports from the Athletic is close to signing a new four-year deal at Stamford Bridge, extending his stay with the club until 2027. The Chelsea wing-back has impressed this season despite the club experiencing a disappointing and chaotic season. The England international is reportedly appreciated by Manchester City, which will no doubt make the Chelsea hierarchy even more keen to extend the wing-backs contract.

The Athletic report also mentions how Chelsea supporters will be delighted to learn that Chilwell looks set to commit his future to the Stamford Bridge club. The Englishman arrived from Leicester City in 2020 for £ 50 million and memorably lifted the Champions League one year later. Chilwells form was exemplary until he picked up a serious knee injury which required surgery at the end of 2021. As the defender battled back to fitness, he heartbreakingly picked up a hamstring injury which ended his hopes of taking part in the 2022 World Cup.
What Chilwell Brings to the Chelsea Team
Chilwell joined Chelsea from Leicester City as an attack-minded full-back. Under Thomas Tuchel, Chilwell has flourished in the left wing-back role. He is comfortable receiving the ball under pressure and rarely looks flustered in possession. His ability on the ball and his intelligence off the ball make him a great player in a possession-based team.
When in possession, he carries the ball well and has a great delivery when he gets into attacking wide areas – once the winger drifts infield, allowing Chilwell to overlap. On top of his attacking prowess, Chilwell has improved defensively – and reads the game well, and never shies away from a tackle. Ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel when in charge at Stamford Bridge, described Chilwell as “very important.” Tying him to a new deal will be a vital move for Chelsea.
